Shane Black officially back on board to direct 'Doc Savage'

After his Iron Man 3 brought in an incredible $700M in about twelve days, Shane Black can pretty much write his own ticket. After being away from the game for eight years after Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Black is now back on top for the first time since his Lethal Weapon days, and his next project right out of the gate is one he's been attached to for years.

In 2009 he became attached to write and direct a film based on the popular pulp fiction hero, Doc Savage. That obviously was put on hold as Black became immersed in the world of Tony Stark, but now EW reports that he has signed back on with Sony to co-write and direct the film. He'll be joining co-writers Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry in chronicling the story of Doc Savage, a
physician, surgeon, scientist, adventurer, inventor, explorer, researcher trained from birth to have near-superhuman abilities. Operating from his office on the 86th floor of a New York skyscraper, he uses his vast wealth and incredible intelligence to right wrongs and go on incredible adventures. So basically he's a Golden Age version of Tony Stark.  The character was made by popular in the 1930s and 40s through comics, radio, magazines, and movies.

Basically this is just confirmation that Black, who has been on board for this project since the beginning, is making this next on his list. And considering Sony was willing to put it on hold for him, expect them to throw all of the resources at their disposal to make sure Black's take on Doc Savage is a success.
