Two new clips from 'Star Trek Into Darkness'

Has it been four years since J.J. Abrams pumped new life into the flagging (at least in my opinion) Star Trek franchise, introducing a whole new audience to Gene Roddenberry's cherished universe? With a faster pace, an emphasis on action and a fresh young cast, his take was more akin to Star Wars than the recent, plodding 'Trek" TV series'.  Star Trek Into Darkness has already played in most markets, and will roll out nationally in just a few days, but for those who simply can't wait, here are a couple of new clips to tide you over.

The first clip features more of the tense conversation between Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and villain John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch), while the latter is "imprisoned" aboard the ship. At some point the good guys will realize that these giant glass prisons really serve no purpose other than to give the evildoer a chance to gloat before making his escape. The second clip is more of Spock (Zachary Quinto) trying to escape the alien lava planet without doing any harm or breaking the Prime Directive. This time he's getting a little help from Uhura (Zoe Saldana) and Sulu (John Cho), but it doesn't look like things are going too well.

Star Trek Into Darkness has been pushed up a day, so now it opens everywhere on May 16th. Our review to come that morning!
