The stacked superstar ensemble This is the End probably has the best chance of any summer comedy to put up numbers comparable to Marvel and Warner Bros.' superhero slate. The chance to see James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson and many of their celebrity pals all in one place acting like fools is too good to ignore. On the flipside, Grown Ups 2 has a bunch of celebrity buddies hanging out and it looks like stale, warmed-over wretch. The early buzz on This Is the End has been extremely positive, and now we have two new red band clips, along with word on what co-directors Rogen and Evan Goldberg will be tackling next.
The Wrap reports that Rogen and Goldberg will produce Sell Out, a comedy based on Simon Rich's novella which recently ran in the pages of The New Yorker. The story centers on a fictionalized version of Rich who encounters his great-great-grandfather Herschel, who had been preserved in brine for 100 years after a pickling accident, and now explores Manhattan while marveling at Simon's hipster lifestyle. Rich is the son of the great New York Times columnist and political pundit, Frank Rich. Rogen has no plans on starring or directing the film at this point.
As twisted as it may sound, one of This Is the End's big draws, which has been highlighted in some of the promos, is watching famous people meet their doom in increasingly violent ways. The latest red band clip centers on Craig Robinson, who after reminiscing about performing his track "Take Yo Panties Off" with Rihanna (which you can listen to here), is then haunted by the death of Aziz Ansari, which Robinson could have prevented if he wasn't such a weenie. We also get to hear Emma Watson curse like a sailor during an adult-geared TV spot where she gets to bust up Danny McBride a little.
This is the End opens on June 12th.
