Arnold Schwarzenegger Takes On Zombie Film, 'Maggie'

The zombie film Maggie has been kicking around for a couple of years, ever since the script by John Scott 3(straight up, he's got a digit in his name) wound up on the 2011 Black List of best unproduced screenplays. While the story does include zombies, or at least one particular zombie, it's caught the eye of a lot of talent because it tries something a little different with the genre. Chloe Moretz and Paddy Considine were circling it last year, but now both appear to be out, with Arnold Schwarzenegger stepping in.

In what is either the most inspired casting or the weirdest (possibly both), Schwarzenegger will produce and take the male lead in the film. He'll play the father to a little girl named Maggie, who is slowly but surely transforming into a zombie. It's definitely a change of pace for him, but just how much is going to depend on the tone. If it turns out to be more of a father/daughter drama, with the zombification essentially standing in for terminal illness or something, then this could be really interesting. Commercials director Henry Hobson will be behind the camera when production finally gets underway, but first an actress to play Maggie needs to be found.

Audiences don't seem to be flocking to Schwarzenegger films like they used to, unless he's part of The Expendables' ensemble. He'll be seen next opposite Sylvester Stallone in Escape Plan, and he has the David Ayer cop thriller Ten opening next year. He'll be back for The Expendables 3, and if rumors are true, he could be throwing down with Dwayne Johnson in Terminator 5. [Variety]
