Djimon Hounsou and Michael Pena To Star In 'The Vatican Tapes'

It's tough to get excited over exorcism films nowadays because they all generally tell the same story. Girl gets possessed, exorcism goes terribly wrong, rinse and repeat. And certainly The Vatican Tapes doesn't deviate too much from that formula, but there's reason for optimism now that Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (In America, Blood Diamond) and End of Watch star Michael Pena have joined the cast as production gears up.

Directed by Mark Neveldine (Crank), The Vatican Tapes involves a leaked video of an exorcism gone wrong. Pena plays Father Lozano, a local priest who discovers that a 27-year old girl is possessed by a satanic force. Hounsou is Vicar Imani, dispatched by the Vatican to exorcise the demon and finding it may be more powerful than he imagined. The cast is rounded out by Dougray Scott, Kathleen Robertson, Peter Andersson, and Olivia Dudley.

Honestly, this sounds beneath the talents of both actors, but their must be something to the script that caught their eye.  Filming begins next month.
