First Official Images From 'Curse of Chucky'

It's going to be tough to avoid the sharp knife of Chucky in the very near future. The iconic killer doll, and at least in my opinion the last great slasher villain, is about to go off on another killing spree in Curse of Chucky, officially the sixth film in the Child's Play franchise begun by Don Mancini in 1988. Mancini, who has written or co-written all of the previous films, is back to write and direct this one, and he's going back to Chucky's roots in more ways than one.

The first official images have been released, and it looks like Chucky has undergone a total makeover. Gone are the scars and the stitches, along with his murderous scowl (for now), although that empty smile is just as terrifying, to be perfectly honest. What's more, Chucky seems to be flying solo again, without the company of killer femme-doll Tiffany.  Brad Dourif is back again as the voice of Chucky, joined by his daughter Fiona in the lead role.

Curse of Chucky goes straight-to-DVD this fall, probably around Halloween. After that, Mancini still has a total Child's Play reboot developing over at MGM.  Check out the images and plot below. [IGN]

PLOT: Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) arrives with her young family in town to help settle their mother’s affairs. As the sisters butt heads over Nica’s plans for the future, Barb’s young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (voiced again by Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. But as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize the household, Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed. What she doesn’t know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. He’s determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years earlier, and this time he’s going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end
