Interview: Geoffrey Fletcher Talks 'Violet & Daisy', Crime Films, and Creating Strong Female Characters

Geoffrey Fletcher made about as big of a splash on the Hollywood scene as any screenwriter could hope for. He took home an Oscar for penning Lee Daniels' Precious, and was obviously the toast of the town afterwards, with his pick of projects. Rather than moving on to some blockbuster franchise or fantasy novel adaptation, he decided to go in another direction by taking on a passion project. That film was the dark, whimsical teen assassin film, Violet & Daisy, making his directorial debut from an idea of his own conception. I had a chance to talk with Fletcher about making the transition from screenwriter to director, working alongside young stars Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel, and how his love of superheroes affected the story.

Check out the interview below, then listen to my review of Violet & Daisy here.
