Lasse Hallstrom to direct 'The Hundred-Foot Journey'; David Meunier joins 'The Equalizer'; 'The Expendables 3' release date

* What's the deal with all of the movies about chefs lately? Jon Favreau and Bradley Cooper are still waging a silent war over their films both titled Chef, and now Lasse Hallstrom (Safe Haven) has one of his own. He will direct an adaptation of Richard C. Morais' The Hundred-Foot Journey, and it's got some heavy-hitters attached to it. Boasting a script by the prolific Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things), Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey are counted among the film's producers. The story centers on a young Indian boy whose family owns a restaurant 100 feet away from a 3 Michelin-star rated restaurant in France, owned by an eccentric, famous chef. No casting has been confirmed yet, but Helen Mirren is said to be eying the lead role.

* David Meunier (Justified) is the latest to join Denzel Washington, Chloe Moretz, Melissa Leo, and Marton Csokas in The Equalizer. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film follows an ex-Black Ops agent named McCall who seeks to make up for a dark past by helping those in need of armed assistance. Meunier will play Slavi, a Russian pimp who employs Moretz's prostitute character.

* Now that Sylvester Stallone has signed up Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes, Milla Jojovich, and Jackie Chan for The Expendables 3, the film has been set to explode into theaters on August 15th 2014. Patrick Hughes is directing, and as of now it's unclear who from the prior films will be returning. Mickey Rourke should be back after skipping out on the last mission, and you can probably count on Jason Statham. With production likely to begin soon, expect more big names to come aboard and a confirmation of the final cast. You can thank an over-eager fan for the cool poster.
