Will Smith May Be Done with 'Men in Black'; Says "Three Is Enough"

Will Smith's After Earth took a beating over the weekend, dealing a blow to what is typically dominance during the summer months. Like his fellow A-lister Tom Cruise, whose Oblivion didn't make a whole lot of noise, Smith is more of a global star now than a domestic one. The success of last year's Men in Black 3 showed Smith and and the franchise still carry a lot of weight, but it was inflated by a strong international response while the domestic total was a series low. Still, it was enough to get Sony talking about a sequel, with Oren Uziel (21 Jump Street) brought on to begin work on a script.

The only question left was who would come back? Smith and co-star Tommy Lee Jones had expressed some minor interest, but nothing coming close to a definite "yes". Actually, Jones' Agent K character was somewhat marginalized last time, with the emphasis squarely on Smith's Agent J. If that was a sign of things to come, then Sony may need to rethink their strategy. While talking to Collider, Smith hinted that he was ready to move on for good...

Smith:  “I think three is enough for me. Three of anything is enough for me. We’ll look at it and we’ll consider it, but it feels like that it might be time to let someone else do that.”

Men in Black 4 probably couldn't survive without Will Smith involved in some way, and if he left then chances are so would Jones and director Barry Sonnenfeld. But considering the way he's been "shepherding" (some would say forcing) the career of his son, Jaden, is it possible that Will would pass the torch? Although it was a joke at the time, both Smith and Sonnenfeld did address the subject last year....

Sonnenfeld: "When he would get too rambunctious, I would tell him that for 'Men in Black 4,' Will is out and Jaden Smith is in.

Smith:  "Jaden is already 13 years old, so he’s at that mythological boys age, you know –  it’s time for his bro-mitzvah," Smith said. "So he’s right at that place ... He’s ready to test me so he can’t come anywhere near my movies right now!"

Ok, but what about now?
