New posters for 'The Wolverine', 'The Kings of Summer', 'Machete Kills', and more

Logan isn't really "immortal" like the posters and plot blurbs keep saying, but that probably looks and sounds a lot better than "pretty tough and long-lived". Two international posters for The Wolverine put his immortality front and center, which makes sense considering it's expected to be challenged like never before. Based on the classic Chris Claremont storyline, Wolverine finds himself in Japan challenged by yakuza leader Lord Shingen, and matching claw-to-sword with the Silver Samurai. Starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, The Wolverine opens on July 26th 2013.

By now you've hopefully experienced the flat out insane trailer for Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills, and if not then what the Hell are you waiting for? Among the many lovely ladies that Danny Trejo will get to snuggle up to (Machete don't snuggle!) is Michelle Rodriguez, back as the bad ass Mexican freedom fighter, Shé, who operates out of a taco truck. She'll likely be aiding Machete in his fight to stop a maniacal arms dealer played by Mel Gibson. It's the third franchise in a year that Rodriguez will be coming back for. She returned from the grave in Resident Evil: Retribution last year, and did the same in Fast & Furious 6. Also starring Jessica Alba, Lady Gaga, Amber Heard, Demian Bichir, Antonio Banderas, Alexa Vega, Charlie Sheen aka Carlos Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Sofa Vergara, and William Sadler, Machete Kills opens on September 13th.

Artist Rich Kelly has designed this gorgeous, hand-drawn limited-edition poster for The Kings of Summer. It's a brilliant piece that perfectly fits the adventurous spirit of the film, which follows a trio of teen boys who strike out on their own and build a house in the woods for the summer. It's a film that takes a fresh angle on growing up, and features a grand, cinematic quality you don't see in many comedies. That was the ambitious goal director Jordan Vogt-Roberts set on, and you can listen to him talk about it on the next episode of Cinema Royale. Starring Nick Robinson, Nick Offerman, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias, Alison Brie, and Megan Mullally, The Kings of Summer is open in some markets now, and goes national on June 7th.

With Idris Elba taking on the role of Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, it's obvious this is going to be an aggressive, new take on the civil rights leader. The first poster revealed the lengths he would go to achieve his ideals, and the latest is Mandela the freedom fighter. Directed by Justin Chadwick, the story will follow Mandela's rise to prominence, his fiery activism, education, and ultimate imprisonment.

After nothing but awful posters for Kristen Wiig's Girl Most Likely, finally we have one that looks like someone spent at least a few minutes on it. Wiig plays Imogene, a once-successful playwright who stages an elaborate suicide attempt in order to win back her ex-boyfriend, only to have end up in the custody of her gambling addict mother, played by Annette Bening. The film premiered last year in Toronto to decent reviews, with the bulk of the praise heaped on Wiig for elevating familiar material. Writers/directors Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman (American Splendor) usually do pretty good work, so hopefully this is better than the trailers make it seem.

Wow, lots of gorgeous hand drawn art, and this Russian poster for teen hit-girl flick Violet & Daisy has a distinct Pulp Fiction flavor. Marking the directorial debut of writer Geoffrey Fletcher (Precious), the film stars Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel as assassins who get more than they bargained for when they try to take out James Gandolfini. Reviews have been pretty harsh, but it's big guns, hot chicks, candy and bubble gum. How can this be bad? Violet & Daisy opens on June 7th, so expect a review that morning.

Hey, remember The Frozen Ground?  It stars Nicolas Cage and John Cusack in a true crime story about a cop's quest to stop a sociopathic serial killer in Alaska. Oh, and Cage isn't the crazy one for once! No, it's Cusack donning the role prolific murderer Robert Hansen, who killed more than 20 women in Alaska in the 1980s. Cage is officer Jack Holcombe, with Vanessa Hudgens as a stripper and the only one of Hansen's victims to ever escape. Also starring 50 Cent, Radha Mitchell, Katherine LaNasa, and Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, The Frozen Ground hits theaters and VOD on August 23rd.
