New Unrated Trailer for 'Filth' Starring James McAvoy

Right now James McAvoy is busy shooting a role as the altruistic humanist Charles Xavier in X-men: Days of Future Past. While the actor is perfectly suited to it, he's been taking on characters with more of an edge of late, starting with Danny Boyle's Trance and the Brit thriller Welcome to the Punch. But we've never seen McAvoy in a role quite as nasty and offensive as the one he plays in Filth.

A red band trailer for the Irvine Welsh adaptation hit a couple of months ago, but now an unrated version is here and is a gut punch of sex, drugs, and really bad decisions. McAvoy plays Bruce Robertson, a drug-addicted, racist, maniacal, sex-obsessed cop who would rather indulge in his basest urges than investigate the murder case he's been tasked with. Shot with flash and energy by director Jon S. Baird, the film also boasts a trippy soundtrack that goes beautifully with some of the surreal imagery.

While we wait to see if Danny Boyle gets around to that Trainspotting sequel, this may be the Irvine Welsh film to tide fans over. Filth co-stars Imogen Poots, Jamie Bell, Eddie Marsan, and Jim Broadbent. and hopefully we'll see it later this year.
