Scarlett Johansson Replaced Samantha Morton In Spike Jonze's 'Her'

About a month ago we learned that Scarlett Johansson and Chris Pratt had been a part of Spike Jone's sci-fi romance, Her, since it filmed last year. So good on Jonze for keeping that secret for so long, but the other part of the equation is that Johansson wasn't just coming in to fill a vacant role, as Vulture reports she was brought in to replace Samantha Morton.

The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a man who falls in love with his Siri-esque operating system, which was to have Morton as the sexy computer voice. But Jonze discovered after production had wrapped that something wasn't quite clicking, and made the switch. From the way Jonze makes it sound, there wasn't any acrimony over the decision....

Jonze: "Samantha was with us on set and was amazing. It was only in post-production, when we started editing, that we realized that what the character/movie needed was different from what Samantha and I had created together. So we recast and since then Scarlett has taken over that role."

Other than the intriguing premise, which sounds like it could have been tailor made for another collaboration with Charlie Kaufman, we know very little about what the film will entail. Just don't expect to see Johansson on screen or anything like that. Fortunately, with Phoenix, Pratt, Olivia Wilde, Rooney Mara, and Amy Adams in the cast there will be plenty to look at.

Her hits theaters on November 20th.
