'Kon-Tiki' Star Is 'Hercules' Villain; Paz Vega Will 'Kill The Messenger'; Scoot McNairy Sails 'Black Sea'

* Didn't Dwayne Johnson just get out of surgery like yesterday, or something? He's been tweeting some ridiculous photos of his training regimen for Brett Ratner's Hercules film, and dude looks like he was carved out of holy marble. The film is currently shooting in Budapest with a supporting crew made up of Joseph Fiennes, Ian McShane, John Hurt, and Rebecca Ferguson, and now we know who Johnson will be squaring off against. Kon-Tiki star Tobias Santelmann will play the primary villain, Rhesus, a golden-haired barbarian and revolutionary. Ratner's version of the mythological tale ditches the godly trappings and presents Hercules as a mortal man with a fearsome reputation. Hercules opens on July 25th 2014. [THR]

* Paz Vega (Sex and Lucia, go watch it folks) has joined Jeremy Renner in Kill the Messenger, a based in truth account of journalist Gary Webb, who was smeared by the government and ultimately committed suicide after he linked the CIA to a cocaine smuggling operation and a plot to arm Contra rebels in Nicaragua. TV vet Michael Cuesta (Homeland) is directing, with Vega playing the girlfriend of an imprisoned dealer. [THR]

* Scoot McNairy (Argo) continues his incredible run of starring roles by joining Jude Law in Black Sea, a deep sea adventure from director Kevin McDonald. Law plays a rogue skipper who gathers a rugged crew and a submarine to search for sunken treasure. McNairy plays an American who convinces him to undertake the mission, even though the captain is wary of being double-crossed.  [Deadline]
