CG-Animated Foosball Film 'Metegol' Scores A New Trailer

Animated movies about toys have a great tradition of being quite successful here, but would that extend to a game based on the international sport of soccer? Hopefully some studio will give American audiences a chance to find out, because the foosball film Metegol looks wildly original and exciting in the way of Pixar's Toy Story.

A couple of trailers have been released already, but the latest gives us the clearest idea yet how director Juan Jose Campanella (Oscar winner The Secret In Their Eyes) plans to bring this story to life. A team of plastic foosball players are trying to be reunited, and they need the help of a shy boy named Amadeo to make it happen. He'll face a real life rival named Genius on the soccer field, and learn to work as part of a team for the first time.

The players themselves are beautifully designed, and it would be interesting to see who Hollywood would consider to do the English dubbing for a film where all of the players are Spanish. Because it's unlikely they'd even consider bringing it over with pesky subtitles. Metegol opens in Spain next month, but no U.S. release date yet.
