Comic-Con: Batman/Superman Movie Based on 'The Dark Knight Returns'

"I want you to remember, Clark…in all the years to come…in your most private moments…I want you to remember…my hand…at your throat…I want…you to remember…the one man who beat you."

Many fans of DC Comics will recognize that line from the classic Batman story, The Dark Knight Returns. It's a chilling moment, one of the defining in the character's history, and today at the Warner Bros. Hall H panel, it was used to deliver the biggest story of the convention. Zack Snyder walked out on stage and, after teasing the fans into a frenzy, introduced Man of Steel co-star Harry Lennix to deliver the line, and confirm the earlier news that the Man of Steel sequel would feature Batman and Superman. He also revealed a logo combining the logos of the to heroes. The official press release from the studio confirms that Snyder will direct from a David Goyer script.

Snyder said that the film would not be a straight adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, but will draw from it as inspiration. The film is expected to land some time in 2015, but Snyder did not go on to mention anything about Justice League or Flash, which are rumored to drop in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

So what it sounds like is that we'll have Batman and Superman squaring off, and using this as a springboard into the introduction of more heroes.
