Since she first came aboard The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Felicity Jones' role has been kept a secret. Despite that, it didn't take fans long to start speculating on who it could be, with the popular opinion that she would be Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat. Last month, Jones seemed to back up this assertion, but it was never confirmed. And now, while out doing press for the Drake Doremus drama Breathe In, she may have just given us the best clue yet, and it points to a character nobody was expecting.
While talking to View London, Jones was asked about her role in the film, and this was her revealing response...
Jones: "It’s all quite shrouded in secrecy, but I’m the Goblin’s girlfriend – I’m in a relationship with him, and his accomplice. I’m on the dark side."
Dane DeHaan is playing Harry Osborn, and it sounds like he'll be turning green at some point in the film. That could possibly mean that Jones is playing Lily Hollister, the villain known as Menace. She was Harry's girlfriend at one point, but became exposed to the Goblin serum after discovering one of his father's hideouts. The details seem to fit what Jones is saying, but when pressed on a name she enjoyed keeping it a secret...
Jones: "It’s all in the vaults of Marvel. I love all that secrecy, I think it’s great. It builds anticipation, there’s too much transparency in everything these days."
It's always possible that Jones is still playing Black Cat and they've just decided to tweak the character history a little bit. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens on May 2nd 2014.
