First Official Poster from Spike Lee's 'Oldboy' Starring Josh Brolin

FilmDistrict has a tough job on their hands attempting to market Spike Lee's Oldboy, mainly because so much of what makes the story captivating simply can't be revealed. The teaser image released a few months ago seemed to acknowledge that by going with an extremely simple design. But now as the first trailer is confirmed to debut on Wednesday, they've done a 180 and gone with a visually striking poster that reveals more than expected.

Designed by Neil Kellerhouse (The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), the image features Josh Brolin emerging from a chest, and is an actual shot from the movie itself. The title treatment was done in Brolin's own handwriting, and those who have seen Chan-Wook's earlier version or read the manga will know why it's of importance to the story. look in the background and you'll also a bright yellow umbrella with the scratch marks which also hold a special significance. Brolin plays a man who is mysterious kidnapped and held in solitary confinement for twenty years, then just as suddenly is released with no explanation as to why. What follows is a visceral and very bloody search for the truth, and it goes in some unexpected places that simply should not be spoiled.

Also starring Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, and Samuel L. Jackson, Oldboy arrives on October 25th.
