First Trailer for David O. Russell's 'American Hustle' with Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Christian Bale and More
"Who's the master? The painter? Or the forger"? David O. Russell's American Hustle has been the subject of a great many questions, mostly surrounding the tone he's aiming to get across. We've seen the vintage hairdos and the snazzy outfits that suggest it'll be a comedic riff on political history in the vein of The Informant! But Russell has promised it will be a fully dramatic ensemble piece, chronicling a real life scandal that destroyed more than few political careers. Now we're getting a first look at the trailer, and it's definitely more of the latter.
Mostly free of dialogue and relying heavily on Led Zeppelin's "Good Times, Bad Times", the trailer doesn't provide much in the way of plot, but gives a brilliant sense of mood and the early 1980s time period. Based on the FBI Abscam sting operation, Christian Bale plays a con man who along with his mistress/partner (Amy Adams) are recruited to help root out political corruption. Bradley Cooper plays the out-of-control agent they're forced to work with, and Jeremy Renner is a popular New Jersey mayor caught up in the sting. The supporting cast is incredible with Jennifer Lawrence, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston, Michael Pena, Robert De Niro and Louis C.K. co-starring.
Is there any wonder Sony has slotted it for an awards season date on Christmas Day?
