Today is Nelson Mandela's 95th birthday, and what better way to celebrate than with the full trailer for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, a film many expect to be a major contender at the next Oscars. A teaser was released just last week, but didn't give us much of star Idris Elba as the anti-apartheid champion. This new trailer puts everything out on the table, and Elba definitely looks the part, and seems to have a firm grasp on the personal strength that made Mandela such a powerful figure.
Directed by Justin Chadwick and co-starring Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela, the story chronicles Mandela's rise to prominence, from his early education all the way through to his 27 year imprisonment. This looks like a fairly straight forward biopic without much in the way of frills or embellishment, with only the performance by Elba the real stand out.
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom opens on November 29th.
