Helen Mirren and Manish Dayal Take 'The Hundred-Foot Journey'; Nicolas Cage Finds 'Lost Melody'

*The recent run of cooking-based movies (two of them on the way titled Chef) took another step last month when we learned that Lasse Hallstrom would be directing an adaptation of Richard Morais' The Hundred-Foot Journey. At the same time we learned that Helen Mirren was eying the lead role as chef Madame Mallory of a 3-Michelin-Star French restaurant who becomes friends with a boy whose parents own the rival Indian restaurant 100 feet away from hers. Now Mirren has been confirmed for the part, and Manish Dayal (90210) is set to play the boy she forms a bond with. With a script by Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things) and powerhouses Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg producing, Dreamworks has given the film a high-profile August 8th 2014 release date. *Nicolas Cage teaming up with Terry Zwigoff, the director behind Crumb, Bad Santa and Ghost World, sounds like a match made in offbeat Heaven. Cage will star in Lost Melody, an indie drama in which he plays a man who falls in love with a prostitute while stuck in a loveless marriage with his shrewish wife. Zwigoff co-wrote the script with Melissa Axelrod, and there's no word when filming could begin. Cage was recently heard voicing The Croods, and will be seen next in The Frozen Ground opposite John Cusack. [TheWrap]
