When she's not busy busting out a funky tune as one half of her Got A Girl collaboration with Dan the Automator, Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been jumping from mainstream films to indie projects, and finding a good deal of success with both. She recently made a cameo in A Good Day to Die Hard, and has the Adam Scott comedy A.C.O.D. coming up later this year. This summer she'll reteam with Smashed director James Ponsoldt for a small but pivotal role in The Spectacular Now, and now she's joining two more indie projects that should keep her busy for awhile.
Winstead has joined her husband Riley Stearns' feature directorial debut, Faults. She'll play a cult member whose parents look to deprogram her by hiring an expert, but he soon comes to think they may be more dangerous than the cult ever was. There's no word on any other casting, but presumably there's plenty of time as shooting isn't set to begin until later this year.
She'll next take the female lead in the untitled directorial debut by Chris Messina, best known for his roles as The Mindy Project, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and HBO's The Newsroom. She joins the already cast Derek Luke in the story of an environmental lawyer forced to care for her 12-year old son after being left by her husband.
Winstead also has the Cinemax pilot Quarry on the way, so she's going to be hard to miss on the big and small screen, which I'm never going to complain about. [Deadline]
