Dreamworks has already had one animated family comedy hit in The Croods, but that came out during a time when there wasn't a lot out there for parents to occupy the kids with. That's not the situation Turbo is facing as it enters a crowded summer season and with Despicable Me 2 likely to still be hanging around. Turbo has Ryan Reynolds voicing a snail with the dream of going really fast and racing in the Indy 500. He gets his wish after dropping into the middle of what looks like Fast & Furious, getting drenched in nitrous, and gaining super snail speed. Dreamworks has really outdone themselves from a visual standpoint, but the "slow" jokes may grow tiresome really fast.
Featuring the voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Schwartz, Snoop Dogg, Maya Rudolph, Paul Giamatti, Richard Jenkins, Michael Pena and more, Turbo opens on July 17th.
