'Inherent Vice' Adds Timothy Simons; Brenton Thwaites Is 'The Giver'; Emily Browning Enters 'The Shangri-La Suite'

* Shooting is well underway on Paul Thomas Anderson's 1970s detective flick, Inherent Vice, and he's still finding space to bolster an already incredible cast. The latest addition if Timothy Simons, who many will recognize as the towering White House aide Jonah Ryan on HBO's Veep. No word on who he'll play, but he joins a roster that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, Owen Wilson, Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, Kevin J. O'Connor, Sasha Pieterse, Peter McRobbie, and Katherine Waterston. [Vulture]

* Last fall we learned that Philip Noyce had come aboard to helm the long-developing adaptation of Lois Lowery's novel, The Giver. With Jeff Bridges already on board, he now has a co-star in Brenton Thwaites, who will play Jonas, a boy in a Utopian society destined to receive the collected memories of his people. Thwaites has been on a roll of late, and will be seen opposite Angelina Jolie in Maleficent next year.

* Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) has joined Luke Grimes (Taken 2) in the Bonnie & Clyde-esque indie, The Shangri-La Suite. Marking the directorial debut by Eddie O'Keefe, having co-written the script with Chris Hutton, the story "follows two young lovers who break out of a mental hospital in 1974 and set out on a road trip to Los Angeles to fulfill the boy's lifelong dream of killing his idol Elvis Presley". Presley may actually be a supporting character in the film, which should make for a potentially scene-stealing turn depending on who lands it. Browning will appear later this summer in Magic Magic, the psychological thriller starring Michael Cera and Juno Temple.
