'The Crow' Creator James O'Barr to Consult on Reboot; Film Heads to Comic-Con

After a tumultuous couple of years trying to get the ball rolling on a reboot of The Crow, Relativity now has the pieces in place with Luke Evans starring and F. Javier Gutierrez directing. Even though the project does seem to finally have some momentum, fans of James O'Barr's graphic novel and the original Brandon Lee film haven't really gotten behind it, largely due to a leaked version of Cliff Dorfman's script that was quite the departure, to say the least. But Relativity is taking major steps to correct the negative perception fans have.

Variety reports that O'Barr has come aboard to consult on the film, although details on what he'll actually be doing have yet to be revealed. O'Barr and Gutierrez are set to bring The Crow to San Diego Comic-Con in just a couple of weeks, and this move could be a way to ease fans' concerns about the reboot, which has seen Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo attached at various stages. The graphic novel centered on a rock star named Eric Draven who is resurrected to get revenge on the men who murdered him and his fiancee.

It's possible that O'Barr will help spearhead a totally new draft of the script, or he could just be a symbolic figure. It's simply too early to tell, but he does sound hopeful The Crow will be a success...

O'Barr: “I believe that this movie will stand alongside Brandon and his film as a valid work of art, and I look forward to collaborating on the project.”
