Amanda Seyfried Is A Porn Legend In First Trailer for 'Lovelace'

Like Snow White and movies about White House invasions, there were two films racing towards the big screen at the same time centered on porn legend and Deep Throat star, Linda Lovelace. One courted Lindsay Lohan for the lead role and was pretty much a disaster right from the beginning, never actually coming to fruition. The other, titled Lovelace, was bolstered by the presence of Amanda Seyfried, leaving behind her good girl image for what was at the time her most mature role yet. After a run of very suggestive images, the film debuted at Sundance, and now as it's only a month from hitting theaters, the first trailer has arrived.

Seyfried plays Lovelace who, at least according to her, was coerced into the world of porn by her scumbag boyfriend Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard), and then was forced to...*ahem*...go deeper and shoot the film she's become infamous for. The story is mostly framed around her redemption and turn towards anti-porn activism, but as noted in my review it suffers from severely "thin characterization and lack of any real insight", with the goal by directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman to let Lovelace off the hook for the choices she made willingly. The 1970s setting is authentically presented, but a string of random celebrity cameos becomes a distraction. Most egregious is a cameo by James Franco as Hugh Hefner, because why the heck not?

Lovelace co-stars Bobby Cannavale, Hank Azaria, Sharon Stone, Robert Patrick, Juno Temple, Wes Bentley, Cory Hardrict, Debi Mazar, Chloe Sevigny, and Chris Noth, opening in theaters on August 9th.
