Matt Damon Joins Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'; Lines Up Directorial Debut

While we wait (and will probably keep waiting) to find out if Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass will actually return for more Jason Bourne action, it appears that Damon has found more than a few ways to fill the time, something more substantial than defending his buddy Ben Affleck.  He'll be making a small cameo in Terry Gilliam's sci-fi film The Zero Theorem, which debuts at Venice in the coming days, and now a story has surfaced that he's joined Christopher Nolan's Interstellar.

The report comes from ThePlaylist, who say the role will be another tiny one for Damon, and of course it's being kept under wraps like everything about Nolan's film. He'll be spending only a couple of weeks on set during the four month Iceland shoot, which means stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine, Topher Grace, Wes Bentley, David Oyelowo, and John Lithgow will have a little extra company. The film will follow a team of astronauts on a heroic through a wormhole, where they'll face alternate dimensions, time travel, and other high concept elements.

And that's not all, as Damon finally seems to be closing in on his directorial debut. While Promised Land was meant to be his first time behind the camera, and it likely would have done better if he was, Damon backed out early on and passed the reins over to his Good Will Hunting director Gus Van Sant. Now he's giving it another go, planning to direct A Murder Foretold, which features a script by Chris Terrio (Argo), and is based on the New Yorker article by David Grann about Guatemalan lawyer Rodrigo Rosenberg. Rosenberg predicted he would be the victim of a politically motivated killing, eventually proving to be correct. After his death, a video tape was discovered in which Rosenberg accused the President and other government officials in his murder.

Damon will be seen later this year in George Clooney's The Monuments Men, and then he'll strap in for Interstellar on November 7th 2014.
