Jean-Marc Vallée to Helm 'Demolition'; 'Angry Birds' Lands Directing Duo

* The time is right now for Canadien director Jean-Marc Vallée. After directing one of the better recent period dramas in The Young Victoria (it's where Emily Blunt won my heart), he's set to shake up the Oscar race with Dallas Buyers Club starring Matthew McConaughey. After that he has Reese Witherspoon in an adaptation of Wild, and now he's landed yet another major project with some big time talent attached. He'll direct Demolition, and no it's not a biopic on the awesome WWE Tag Team from the 1980s. Produced by Jason Reitman and John Malkovich with a Black List script by Brian Sipe, the film is "about a young investment banker struggling to understand his emotional disconnect after the tragic death of his wife. He begins to tear apart his life in a distraught effort to see where he went wrong, but is ultimately rescued by a woman he meets in a chance encounter." Filming will begin next summer once Vallée finished up with Wild. [Deadline]

* Rovio Entertainment has announced that Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly will direct Angry Birds, based on the best-selling app and video game that has single-handedly reduced work productivity and sold millions of smartphones. It will be the feature debut for both, although Kaytis has done animation work on Disney's Frozen, Tangled, and the Oscar-nominated short, Paperman. Reilly has done been a storyboard artist on both of Sony's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movies, Spider-Man 2, and The Iron Giant. Angry Birds will crash into theaters on July 1st 2016.
