Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd Frontrunners for Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

Marvel has done a pretty good job keeping any rumors regarding Edgar Wright's Ant-Man quiet, and other than a false story about Armie Hammer being up for the lead, we've only really heard the desires of fans. Well, in keeping with that, two names have emerged as frontrunners that certainly qualify as fan favorites.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd are said to be topping the list of contenders to play Hank "Ant-Man" Pym, who in the comics is not only a founding member of the Avengers but the creator of Ultron, the evil android showing up in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Another actor could enter the picture at some point and steal the role away, but right now it's looking like these two are the prime candidates. The script by Wright and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) should include plenty of comic moments to go along with the butt-kickery (see the test footage for an example), and it would be interesting to see how Rudd would acquit himself as an action hero. Gordon-Levitt would be making the jump from DC and The Dark Knight Rises, and this would likely put a final nail in the hopes of him ever playing Batman.

So let's see what happens, but whoever takes the role will be signing on for the long haul. Ant-Man opens on July 31st 2015.  [Variety]
