Fiery New Trailer for 'Nymphomaniac Vol. 2'

After taking in the super-secret screening of Nymphomaniac Vol. 1 at the Sundance Film Festival, my impression was that Lars von Trier has been pulling a bit of a prank on everyone. The trailers for the film were wild, chaotic, and suggested a sexual perversion that would keep many people away. The end result was something entirely different, though, and I described it as his most accessible film yet. But at the same time it looked like von Trier was saving most of his boundary-pushing for the second volume, and evidence of that comes in this new trailer for it.

While this trailer is actually pretty tame, with no nudity but plenty of bondage, it's exactly for that reason I expect it to go totally over-the-top. In other words, von Trier is pulling another bait and switch on the audience. The second volume continues the story of Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg and Stacy Martin) as she tells the story of her sexual history to an intellectual (Stellan Skarsgard) who rescued her after a mysterious beating.

Nymphomaniac Vol. 1 hits VOD on March 6th, followed in theaters on March 21st. Nymphomaniac Vol. 2 hits VOD April 3rd, then in theaters April 18th.
