First Trailer for David Gordon Green's 'Joe' Starring Nicolas Cage

After spending a few years appealing to the stoner crowd with films like Pineapple Express and The Sitter, David Gordon Green seems to be circling back around to the indie dramas that began his career. Last year he directed Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch in the quirky dramedy Prince Avalanche, which we hated but was well-received in some other circles. He also hit the festival circuit with Joe, a gritty new film that stars Nicolas Cage in a role we haven't seen from him in ages.

The first trailer for Joe has been released, and there's a soulful, Southern quality to it similar to Mud. Coincidentally, both films star Tye Sherdian, and here he plays a 15-year-old kid from an abusive home, only to become friends with Joe (Cage), an ex-con looking to make something of his life for once.

Joe has yet to gain a U.S. date but is expected to hit later this year.
