Chloe Moretz Eyed for YA Adaptation, 'The 5th Wave'
Before Rick Yancey had published The 5th Wave, the first book in yet another YA sci-fi series, Tobey Maguire and Graham King had picked it up with plans on a feature film. And it seems their foresight was spot-on, as the book was an instant hit and bestseller. Last fall they hired J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed) to direct the big screen adaptation, and now Chloe Moretz is being sought for the lead heroine.
Up and Comers have learned that Moretz has been offered the starring role, although there's no indication if she's even interested. The story takes place after waves of alien invaders nearly wipe out the human population. Moretz would play 16-year-old Cassie, who along with her brother are among the few survivors. When he is taken by the disguised alien forces, she must journey to find him, meeting the mysterious Evan Walker who may be her only hope for a rescue. I'm guessing this Evan is also extremely hot and very kissable.
The book is the first in a planned trilogy, with the second book due out in September. According to Yancey, casting will be officially announced in a couple of weeks and we'll see if Moretz is part of it. Moretz will be seen later this year in Laggies (review here) opposite Keira Knightley, and in The Equalizer with Denzel Washington.
