Key & Peele Producing 'Police Academy' Reboot

The Police Academy franchise is one of the most memorable in Hollywood, but it's been dormant for quite awhile. We've seen seven films and a pair of TV series based on the bumbling cops, with the last movie being 1994's Mission to Moscow. But last year we learned New Line Cinema was looking to revive Police Academy with a big screen reboot, and now its gotten a much-needed comedic boost.

The Wrap has confirmed an earlier Tracking Board report that Comedy Central duo  Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are in talks to produce the reboot, with the possibility they could come aboard and star. Scott Zabielski (Tosh.0) had been set to direct but he's now dropped out, and a rewrite is underway from Jeremy Garelick (The Break-Up).

As it stands right now they are only producing, and chances are they will wait for a completed script before making any further decisions. It certainly seems like the sort of project they'd be quick to join, considering they've recently appeared in stuff like Hell Baby, Wanderlust, and Let's Be Cops. As distasteful as the idea of bringing back Police Academy is, Key & Peele could at least make it worth paying attention to.
