Johnny Depp Offered Lead in J.J. Abrams-Produced 'One Last Thing Before I Go'
The last news on the adaptation of Jonathan Tropper's novel One Last Thing Before I Go came last year when Mike Nichols (Closer) entered talks to direct the film. J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot picked up the rights to the novel a couple of years ago, just as another of Tropper's books, This Is Where I Leave You, was developing with Shawn Levy at the helm. But now the film may be getting a serious dose of star power as an offer has been made to Johnny Depp to star.
According to The Tracking Board, an offer is out to Depp to lead the film, which is seen as a high priority for Bad Robot and Paramount. Depp would play a man in a mid-life crisis, who has seen his one shot at fame evaporate, and his family basically write him off, decide against having life-saving heart surgery and just live in the moment. It would be a change of pace for Depp and not at all like the oddball characters we're used to seeing him play nowadays.
This is just an offer and there's no indication Depp is interested at this point. He'll be seen next in Wally Pfister's directorial debut, Transcendence.
