Five years have passed since Luca Guadagnino's beautiful (but dull in my opinion) I Am Love with Tilda Swinton, and in that time he's mostly been flying under the radar. He was attached to bring James Ellroy's crime novel The Big Nowhere to the screen, and recently boarded an adaptation of A Reliable Wife. But it looks like something else will come first as he's lined up a superstar cast for another project.
Guadagnino will reunite with Tilda Swinton for an untitled "sexy thriller", bringing along Ralph Fiennes, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), and Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone) to co-star. No plot details are available except that it will be set in “the Italian island of Pantelleria", meaning it will likely be stunning to look at.
Dave Kajanich wrote the script for what will be Guadagnino's first English-language fiction film, with shooting set to begin this summer.
