Darren Aronofsky Eyes 'Fargo'-esque Sci-Fi Film 'Moonfall'
Having scored the biggest Biblical film of the year with Noah, emerging atop a fairly crowded field, Darren Aronofsky is now eying his next project. We know he'll be adapting Margaret Atwood's trilogy of fiction novels MaddAddam for HBO, but as for the big screen it appears he's looking to go off-world.
According to The Wrap, Aronofsky and "several top filmmakers" are considering Moonfall, based on a spec script by red-hot writer, David Weil. Weil gained the attention of Hollywood when his screenplay Half Heard in the Stillness landed on the Black List. Moonfall is described as a Fargo-esque thriller set on the moon, which could be awesome if that's remotely accurate.
This is all very early on and nobody has struck any deals for the film yet, much less Aronofsky who could simply produce rather than direct. One of the things that made Noah work was Aronofsky's blending of religion and sci-fi to create something unique, and hopefully he'll get a chance to blend genres again with Moonfall.
