This won't come as a surprise to anybody paying attention to Star Wars: Episode VII over the last year, but J.J. Abrams has confirmed he'll be shooting the film in IMAX. Or at least partially in IMAX. Abrams tweeted the below image that teases filming of Tatooine using the IMAX cameras...

Disney had already announced a few months ago that Star Wars would be released in IMAX theaters, while rumors surfaced even before that claiming Abrams would be using the format. He'd boasted about his intentions of shooting the film in 35mm and we can probably expect him to do that in conjunction with IMAX. So there you have it. Lightsabers the size of a small building will be coming your way on December 18th 2015.
