Live-Action 'Dumbo' Film in the Works from Writer of 'Transformers'

Let that headline sink in for a second. Ehren Kruger, the guy who wrote three feature-length toy advertisements for Michael Bay, will be writing a live-action Dumbo movie for Disney. Why? Because Disney won't stop until they've wrung every nostalgic dollar they can from their animated classics.

According to THR, this Dumbo film will feature a human cast playing a family whose story parallels that of the pachyderm, who will be rendered in CG. The original 1941 story followed Dumbo as he hit the road with a mouse companion and was convinced that a magic feather could help him fly. This shouldn't really come as a surprise considering what Disney has been up to lately. Maleficent, a Sleeping Beauty "remake" of sorts, has done massively well, and they've got a live-action Cinderella film opening next year followed by Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and 101 Dalmatians spinoff, Cruella. Can The Lion King be far behind?

So what was the last Disney movie about elephants, and was it any good? Well, that was Operation Dumbo Drop and no, it wasn't.
