Now that social networking and online dating are commonly accepted, if not prevailing, ways of meeting people we've many movies on the dangers of it. Is it possible to form a connection with someone who you only know through an online profile? Or is there always that danger of getting "Catfished"? That's the question The Newsroom and Short Term 12's John Gallagher Jr. must contend with in the first trailer for The Heart Machine.
Written and directed by Zachary Wigon, the film stars Gallagher and indie actress Kate Lyn Sheil (Sun Don't Shine) as a couple who fall in love online, but are separated by a great distance. He lives in New York City while she claims to be in Berlin, but over time he begins to suspect that may not be the case and begins a search for the truth.
The Heart Machine hits theaters and VOD on October 24th.
