Oscar Isaac is En Sabah Nur in 'X-men: Apocalypse'

Over the last few days there have been a flurry of rumors, kicked off by the terrible Meet the Movie Press podcast that seemed to suggest Idris Elba was up for the bad guy role in X-men: Apocalypse.  It was a silly rumor that suggested the actor was a contender because he said the word "apocalypse" once in Pacific Rim. Yeah, see how flimsy these things get sometimes? Anyway, it turns out it won't be Elba, nor the previously rumored Tom Hardy, but instead Oscar Isaac who will take on the role of the X-men's most powerful foe.

It's another major coup for Isaac, who already has a part to play in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and will be seen later this year in the potential Oscar contender, A Most Violent Year. He will play Apocalypse aka En Sabah Nur, the Egyptian mutant considered to be the first of his species. The character was glimpsed at the end of X-men: Days of Future Past commanding a legion of followers. What we know about the film is that it will be set in the '80s and will continue to follow the 'First Class' team of heroes, with younger versions of familiar faces like Jean Grey and Cyclops making appearances. It's also expected that Channing Tatum will turn up as Gambit.

Directed by Bryan Singer, X-men: Apocalypse opens May 27th 2016.
