30 Day Film Challenge Day 21: Your Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film

Of all the lessons I learned from The Princess Bride the most important was to never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line. Since I'm making a concerted effort to not use any Star Wars movies on this challenge, the only real choice I had was Rob Reiner's timeless adaptation of William Goldman's fairy tale.

Framed as a story being read to a sickly boy(played by Fred Savage), it charts the path of true love between the beautiful Princess Buttercup(Robin Wright) and Wesley(Cary Elwes), her former servant. A wealth of eccentric characters do their best to keep their love from ever taking hold, from the cowardly Prince Humperdink to the sesquipedal Vizzini, and the massive Fezzik(Andre the Giant).

They just don't make movies like The Princess Bride anymore. A fantasy free of cynicism, that doesn't need to be dark. I don't know anyone who didn't love this movie as a child who doesn't still love it today.
