I bet if asked, 95% of people would have no idea who the heck directed American Psycho. All anyone remembers is Christian Bale and his devilish performance. The answer to the question is Mary Harron, a Canadien filmmaker who has all but fallen off the map since, with 2005's The Notorious Bettie Page(actually a decent flick) being her last big screen effort of note. But her biggest film could be right around the corner, as Deadline notes she'll be directing an adaptation of Melissa Marr's 2007 teen novel, Wicked Lovely.
The story centers around a young girl named Aislinn, who finds herself torn between the mortal she loves and the seductive Faery King. Aislinn has been raised to fear faeries her entire life, but has always been able to see them, surviving by following a strict set of rules. The book is the first of a five book so series, so clearly Universal is eyeing this as potential franchise to square off against The Hunger Games, The Mortal Instruments, and others. Caroline Thompson(Corpse Bride) penned the script, so that's one thing going for it.
These young adult adaptations are hard to gauge. I haven't read any of them so the only thing I really have to go on is plot and talent. Harron is an adequate director, so she likely won't be the problem. There's a Twight quality to the premise, with a girl stuck choosing between two dudes she'll probably string along for a number of movies the same way Bella did. I have a feeling my sisters may be more into this film than me, but if anyone has actually read the novels let us know your thoughts. Is this a movie worth getting excited for?
