For a show nobody watched except for me and like 10 others, Party Down was the rare sitcom that featured a hysterical cast with absolutely no weak links. Everyone could hold their own comedically, which is why a number the show's finest have seen their careers blow up in recent months. Two of those are Martin Starr(Adventureland) and Lizzy Caplan(Hot Tub Time Machine), who are set to work together again in the indie romantic comedy, Save the Date, from director Mike Mohan.
Variety broke the news of their signing, which also includes Alison Brie(Community) and Geoffrey Arend(500 Days of Summer, Undeclared). The film covers two sisters(Brie and Caplan): one who is settled in her life, the other who is more ambivalent about the future. Arend will play a love interest who is passionate about music. Not sure who Starr would be yet. Possibly another love interest. He and Caplan would make a fantastic deadpan pair.
The film was written by Mohan, comic book scribe Jeffrey Brown, and Egan Reich. Mohan is best known as a director of music videos, but recently had a noncompetitive film entry at Sundance, the indie flick One Too Many Mornings. Jordan Horowitz(The Kids Are All Right) is producing.
Shooting is set to begin next month. Caplan will soon begin filming on the Will Ferrell produced comedy, Bachelorette, which features Kirsten Dunst and Adam Scott, another Party Down alum.
