Rabbit Hole writer David Lindsay-Abaire offered Poltergeist remake?

Tell you what, I like the things MGM is doing now that they've pulled themselves up out of bankruptcy. They've pulled the trigger on the big stuff like The Hobbit and Bond 23, and this plan to remake a bunch of their 1980s staples is off to a great start. One of the films on that list to be remade was Poltergeist, the 1982 Tobe Hooper film about a family plagued by evil spirits. Not a particularly novel idea, but MGM is looking to shake it up a bit with a hiring that is straight out of left field.

David Lindsay-Abaire, the writer behind last year's acclaimed film, Rabbit Hole, has been offered the Poltergeist writing gig. A Pulitzer prize winner(for his Rabbit Hole stageplay), Lindsay-Abaire is in high demand right now and not just for overly serious dramas. He wrote the script for Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful as well.

No deal is in place yet, and there's a good chance Lindsay-Abaire will turn it down. There doesn't seem to be a lot of outcry for a Poltergeist remake anyway. Why eff with greatness, and let's be frank, Poltergeist is a great film. Other similar movies have tried and failed(although Insidious comes close to success) to match it. Plus, isn't Poltergeist cursed anyway?
