Sure Shots: TMNT; Tron 3; Darren Aronofsky

* It always seemed weird that Platinum Dunes, best known as horror-meisters, secured the rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Maybe that's why they've been moving at a snail's pace on it, with writers seeming to come and go every few months. The last news we had on it came last August when Iron Man scribes Art Mancum and Matt Holloway took a shot at the script. But that appears to have been all for naught, as Deadline reports that Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, fresh off hammering out Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol, have been brought in to take a shot at it. A lot more questions than answers continue to swirl around this one.

* Tron Legacy might've appeared to be a hit for Disney, with it earning just over $400M worldwide. That's a nice chunk of change, but when the budget is $170M and possibly even higher, the actual profits are limited. So there was never any guarantee that a Tron 3 would happen, especially with most of the creative folks off doing their own things. But Disney is at least getting the ball rolling by bringing in David DiGilio to start work on a script. DiGilio's only feature credit was 2006's Eight Below, which showed Paul Walker being out acted by a bunch of mangy snow dogs. DiGilio also created the very short-lived TV series, Traveler.

*When your little ballet movie makes over $300M and earns an Academy Award, you can do pretty much anything you want. Darren Aronofsky has been trying to make an adult themed, R-rated film about the Biblical story of Noah for years, but for a variety of reasons it hasn't happened. The material and the rating are one thing, the cost and potential for profit(or lack thereof) is another. But now that Aronofsky is out of directing The Wolverine, the time appears to be now if Noah is ever to set sail(pun intended). Aronofsky has put together a package to pitch the film, bringing in John Logan(Hugo Cabret) to rewrite the script. Summit, Fox, and Paramount all appear to be interesed in financing. Didn't we see the story of Noah's Ark already? Yeah, it was in that movie...what was it? Oh yeah, Evan Almighty. *snort*
