If after watching this trailer for The Guard you start having flashbacks to Martin McDonagh's great hitman flick, In Bruges, well there's a reason for that. The Guard was written and directed by his brother, John Michael McDonagh, and the similarities in their style are pretty clear.
The Guard stars Brendan Gleeson(In Bruges, Gangs of New York) as an unorthodox Irish cop who starts working with a straight arrow FBI agent(Don Cheadle) to bust a major drug ring. Obscene, racist, politically incorrect and often hilarious hijinks ensue. Mark Strong, Liam Cunningham, and David Wilmot also star. Debuting at Sundance to rave reviews, the film is due to open in the UK on July 8th and in limited release here on July 29th. Check out the the trailer and let us know what you think!
