Zach Galifianakis reveals possible details on The Hangover Part 3; Alan to be in a mental ward?

Bitch and moan. That's all a lot of people did after The Hangover Part II turned out to be virtually a carbon copy of the first film. What did they expect it to be? Roman friggin' Holiday? No, and Todd Phillips would've been an idiot for switching up the formula. Judging by the over $300M haul the comedy has already brought in, he was right. But that's in the past now, and Warner Brothers didn't waste time looking to the future. Craig Mazin has been brought back to get crackin' on the script, and now in an interview with Rolling Stone(thanks to The Playlist for the heads up), Zach Galifianakis has spilled the beans on what the story could entail.

The actor revealed that Warner Brothers has been pushing him to come back for the third film already, and frankly I'm not sure if he's happy about that or not...

Galifianakis: “They want to do a ‘Hangover III,’” he said. “I’m getting fricking phone calls already.”

Yeesh. I'm leaning towards "not happy". He went on to say that any threequel would involve the guys breaking Alan out of a mental institution. So right there it seems as if folks who complained about Part II should be happy about the change in direction. Then again we don't know how much of the story would encompass this break out. We don't even know if any of this is true or Galifianakis just yanking our chains.

Rumors have been flying around that Amsterdam would be the final stop in Phillips' planned trilogy. Nice idea, but the whole mental ward thing doesn't really fit with that idea, does it? If any of this turns out to be true, I'm guessing it'll just be a framing sequence designed to get Alan back with his Wolfpack buddies before their next doomed trip. It'd be kindof a cool nod to Galifianakis's great performance as a mental patient in It's Kind of a Funny Story, don't you think?
