Leigh Whannell reveals two returning characters for 'Insidious 2'

James Wan may have achieved record success with his low budget horror, Insidious, but the film wasn't without it's detractors. While it was absolutely an effective, psychological creeper that proved he's more than just the guy who directed Saw, what people tend to complain about was the comical tone the film took with the arrival of Specs(Leigh Whannell) and Tucker(Angus Sampson), two ghost hunters working alongside a veteran paranormal activist, portrayed by the scene chewing Lin Shaye. Personally, I felt like the humor they added was a crucial ingredient to why the film worked.

Whannell, who also happens to be Wan's frequent writing partner, revealed to Dread Central that the two polarizing characters will be returning for the sequel....

Whannell: "I can say that yes, my character will be seen in Insidious 2.  It may probably bum a lot of people out, though, to hear this news. It's part of the reason I don't even read the internet message boards anymore; there was this hatred that spewed out from fans saying 'I hated those guys! They sucked! They ruined the movie!' so there will probably be a lot of people out there who will be disappointed to hear that the Specs and Tucker characters will be coming back."

We probably won't see Insidious 2 until some time in 2013, as Wan is currently prepping another horror titled The Warren Files, starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.
