Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington circling Stephen Gaghan's crime thriller, 'Candy Store'

It's been a lot of years since we last saw Stephen Gaghan behind the camera. The last time was with 2005's multi-tiered geopolitical thriller, Syriana, for which he was able to gather an amazing cast, including a Best Supporting Actor victory for George Clooney. Now it looks like Gaghan is coming back, and he's got two major names already interesting in coming aboard.

THR reports that Gaghan will write and direct the crime thriller, Candy Store, which they say is about a deep cover operative who moves to Brooklyn to start his life over as a beat cop, only to discover that the global organization he had been fighting has just as much of a presence in his own backyard. Denzel Washington and Brad Pitt are said to be circling the film, with Jamie Foxx also expressing some interest.

This is all very early in development so we may not see any of this stuff come together, but if it does it could be pretty awesome. Gaghan most recently did a script polish on After Earth, the upcoming sci-fi film from M. Night Shyamalan and Will Smith.
