Christoph Waltz sought for Stephen Gaghan's 'Candy Store'

Whatever it is that Stephen Gaghan(Syriana) has cookin' with the crime thriller, Candy Store, it must be pretty damn great because it's drawing all sorts of attention right now. Just yesterday we learned about it, and that Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, and Jamie Foxx were all circling roles in the film, which follows a deep cover agent who looks for a clean start in Brooklyn as a regular ol' beat cop, only to discover that the global organization he used to fight against is operating in his own backyard.

TheWrap now reports that Pitt's Inglourious Basterds co-star, Christoph Waltz, has been made an offer to star as well. Pitt would play the lead character, who we now know is named Mark Swain, while Waltz would take on the role of Black Zenga. Not sure what the heck a Black Zenga is, but if anybody can make that name cool it's Waltz.

Your standard issue list of actors like Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Matt Damon are all on the shortlist in case deals can't get made. Since this is all very early on in the process, who knows what the final make-up of Candy Store will turn out to be.
