Gillian Anderson, Ron Howard, and more join voice cast for Studio Ghibli's 'From Up on Poppy Hill'

It's always a special occasion when Studio Ghibli releases another film, so the recent announcement that director Goro Miyazaki's(the son of legendary Hayao Miyazaki) From Up on Poppy Hill would be heading to theaters here soon was met with a huge amount of enthusiasm. GDKids is prepping a one-week run in Los Angeles sometime around November to qualify for the Academy Awards, and now we know who'll be providing much of the voice work.

X-Files star and geek goddess Gillian Anderson will join Chris Noth(Sex and the City), Sarah Bolger(In America), and Ron Howard will lend their voices to the film, which follows a group of Yokohama teens attempting to stop a rich dude from tearing down their favorite school clubhouse. Of course there's a hearty amount of teen angst thrown in for good measure. Hayao Miyazaki co-wrote the script, and the English-language direction is being led by Gary Rystrom, the Academy Award-winning sound designer who also directed the American version of The Secret World of Arrietty. He also wrote the screenplay and directed the Toy Story short film, Hawaiian Vacation.

After the November run, expect to see From Up on Poppy Hill get a full theatrical release next March.  You can check out a trailer for the film below.....[Studio Ghibli]
